Serial killer in 1870s is murdering people based on Edgar Allen Poe’s famous works. John Cusack plays Poe and Luke Evans plays a detective assigned to the case. Think Alex Cross in the late 1800s.

Could be interesting except what we get is an tedious paint-by-numbers movie with very little attention and a zombie performance from Cucack.

When Cusack is yelling at his publisher in the movie, I swear he was copying his performance from High Fidelity.

I’ll give the movie kudos for some interesting lighting and staging. Luke Evans makes a quite convincing detective and hope to see more from him. But really for the most part this is an extreme disappointment
