From the brainiacs who brought us “Super Troopers” and “The Dukes of Hazzard” comes a comedy about what lengths we will go to have a baby.
Olivia Munn and Paul Schneider star as Tommy and Audrey, a couple who after three years of marriage decided to have a child.
They try and try but nothing takes. So they get each other checked out and find that Tommy has slow swimmers.
We also learn that Tommy donated a lot to sperm bank so he could afford his wife’s engagement ring.
Desperate to make his wife happy, Tommy decides to rob the sperm bank and get back his junk.
If you can get your head around just how zany that premise is then take that and go even further because the film does that and doesn’t look back. And for the first 45 minutes it is utterly hysterical.
But when it starts to go downhill is when director Jay Chandrasekhar is introduced as the man who would help Tommy and his friends rob the bank.
Jay Chandrasekhar, I am sure thought playing an out of control character like this would be perfect and hilarious but the character just makes Tommy’s mission all the more out of control. And even in a comedy, you are asking yourself, is this guy right to raise a kid?
I really liked the performances from Olivia Munn and Paul Schneider. But the one who stole the show for me was Tommy’s best friend Wade, played by Kevin Hefferman. This guy has the comedic timing of John Candy and his relationship with Schneider reminded me so much of earlier John Candy films. Hefferman is also a favorite of Jay Chandrasekhar and has co-starred in all the Broken Lizard films. When is he going to break-out?
This film really isn’t for everyone but if you like films like “Sex Drive”, “Road Trip” and “Eurotrip” then you will probably like this. If not have a couple beers and watch it late one night.
