Retro Review: Miss March

Miss March is your typical screwball comedy. It kind of reminds me of those 80s screwball comedies like Up the Creek and Jocks. I still love Up the Creek for some reason.

The movie opens with a two friends (Zach Cregger, Trevor Moore) hanging out watching cheerleader tryouts.

One is, Tucker, who is quite oversexed and dreams of his next conquest while the other is, Eugene, who is anxious about having sex for the first time with his girlfriend (Raquel Alessi).

When the night finally arrives, Eugene has a few dozen shots with Tucker and is about to go lose his viginity when he falls down a flight of stairs and ends up in a coma. (It is funnier than it sounds)

Eugene wakes up four years later and Tucker is right there waiting for him. He soon finds out that his girlfriend is now a Playboy centerfold, “Miss March”. She has moved on.

So he teams up with Tucker and they storm off to get her back. One problem, Eugene cant walk due to the coma. So it may take a little longer than he thought.

There is a lot of crude bathroom humor here, sex jokes and well half naked people but what do you expect given this genre.

The acting is well goofy but that is what it supposed to be in this genre.

What is interesting is that the two unknown stars of the film (Zach Cregger, Trevor Moore) also wrote and directed it. And they must know this genre backwards and forwards because their performances are perfect for this genre. That and they also got full access to the Playboy mansion is quite impressive for a first film.

If you like those American Pie direct to DVD movies or 80s screwball comedies then I would suggest checking this out.
